Shizuoka University Faculty of Education's Shiota Laboratory (Associate Professor: Shingo Shiota) has developed educational material titled "Let's Think About the Spread of Misinformation on SNS" under the supervision of the Shizuoka Prefectural Police Human Security and Juvenile Division. The material has been made available for free download since Wednesday, July 1.

As SNS use becomes commonplace, students have more opportunities to act not only as information recipients but also as senders. However, in learning situations about acting as senders, the focus has often been on presenting dangers such as "Be careful about spreading misinformation," which makes it difficult for children to relate to the issue personally.

Therefore, the Shiota Laboratory, in collaboration with the Shizuoka Prefectural Police, has developed new educational material that allows students to learn about the spread of misinformation as a personal issue. This material presents scenarios that are likely to make one want to spread information, such as "anger," "urgency," "anxiety," "favorite celebrity," and "campaigns," and prompts students to consider, "When do I feel like I might spread information?" The aim is to encourage students to pause and think before spreading information, by reflecting on their own emotions and actions.

This educational material is available on the Shizuoka University Faculty of Education's Shiota Laboratory website and can be freely downloaded and used by educators and police personnel nationwide.

Furthermore, an open class using this material will be held on Friday, July 17, at OISCA Hamamatsu International High School. We kindly request that members of the press cover this event.
