## SHIRO Eslite Nanxi Store Design Concept

Preserving the memories of Taipei. Building a store that connects and circulates history through materials sourced from local manufacturing sites.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, we will open our second store in Taiwan on the first floor of Eslite Nanxi, a lifestyle complex in Zhongshan, Taipei. The Zhongshan district, where our second store is located, is an area where traditional streetscapes coexist with new creativity. It is right next to Chifeng Street, formerly known as 'Datie Jie' (Street of auto parts and hardware stores), and now a place where retro and modern styles intersect.

During our fieldwork in the streets around Taipei, we were captivated by the beauty of warehouse rack components and unused porcelain tiles lying in the corners of local waste factories. Even after long use, their structures were surprisingly sturdy, as if infused with the souls of the craftsmen.

We decided to utilize these remnants of history as the tabletops and legs for our main store table. We kept the original holes used to fix the boards without any extra processing, leaving the dents and scratches from their hard-working lives in Taipei’s humid climate exactly as they were. Rather than discarding these items etched with past memories, we gave them new value to connect them to the future. In honoring the history of craftsmanship of the people living in Taipei, we have poured our sincere 'zero waste' philosophy into this store design as a new step for people to know the SHIRO brand more deeply.

## 'From Recycling to Reuse'—Possible Because Taiwan is a Recycling Powerhouse

Taiwan is a recycling powerhouse with an established ecosystem unparalleled in the world. Collected waste is manually separated by material and recycled. Because materials are sorted with such care, it is easy to envision a future of reuse, leading to new creativity. We aim to create a society of 'reuse.' By not using new energy or generating CO2 to turn them back into raw materials, we circulate resources with as little burden on the Earth as possible. This time, we are using large amounts of paper offcuts from local printing companies as store materials. We want to open up the store-making process and allow Taiwanese customers to experience the act of injecting creativity into once-discarded items. We will hold workshops to create some of the display fixtures and walls where SHIRO products will be arranged.

## Building a Store Together—Paper Scraps from Local Printing Processes Become Store Fixtures

We encountered paper scraps from printing companies while visiting local manufacturing sites in Taiwan. There is a unique beauty created by linking these materials that were once discarded. By combining pieces of various sizes and leveraging the flexibility of the paper, we created wood-like forms by connecting them vertically, which decorate the sides of display fixtures. We have been working on 'store making that doesn't waste' since 2023, avoiding virgin materials as much as possible and using local resources. For this store in Taiwan, 20.2% of all 4.46㎡ of fixtures were made from upcycled materials. Through our store design, we aim to create new value and foster familiarity with the brand.
