Shūgorō Yamamoto's short story collection "The Living Genpachi" (Shincho Bunko), published by Shincho-sha, will serve as the original work for director Daisaku Kimura's new film "Harakukukutte" (scheduled for release in 2027), starring actor Kento Yamazaki. Author Introduction
Shūgorō Yamamoto (1903-1967)
Born in Yamanashi Prefecture. After graduating from Nishimae Elementary School in Yokohama, he lived as an apprentice at Shūgorō Yamamoto Shoten in Kobiki-cho, Tokyo. In 1926, "Sumidera Fūkin" was published in "Bungei Shunju," becoming his breakthrough work in the literary world. "Nihon Fujōki" was nominated for the Naoki Prize in the first half of 1943, but he declined the award. Since then, he continuously published masterpieces such as "Yanagibashi Monogatari," "Nebuké Chōjō," "Eiga Monogatari," "Momi no Ki wa Nokotta," "Aka Hige Shinryōtan," "Goban no Tsubaki," "Aobeka Monogatari," "Kūku Henreki," "Kisetsu no Nai Machi," "Sabu," and "Nagai Saka" until shortly before his death.
