Sakura Momoko

Born in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture (now Shimizu Ward) in 1965. Debuted as a manga artist in 1984. Began serializing 'Chibi Maruko-chan' in 'Ribon' in 1986, received the Kodansha Manga Award in 1989 (Heisei 1), and gained national popularity when it was adapted into a TV anime in 1990. She also wrote the lyrics for the ending theme 'Odoru Pompokolin', which won the Japan Record Award that year. Since then, she has been highly active in her unique world of works, blending nonsense, fairy tales, and comedy. Her essay trilogy 'Momo no Kanzume' has all become million-sellers. Other works include the manga 'Coji Coji', 'Kami no Chikarakko Shinbun', the essay trilogy 'Ano Koro', and 'Hitorizumou'. The magazine 'Fujisan' (5 issues), edited by Sakura Momoko, was also a topic of conversation.
