Social Suspense Manga 'Kaigo to Hyena' Begins Serialization on 'Kurage Bunch'

Shinchosha's web manga site, 'Kurage Bunch,' has launched the social suspense manga 'Kaigo to Hyena,' which pierces through the realities and darkness of eldercare in Japan, a nation of the elderly.

This work is the latest installment in the 'Social Issues Comic Series' handled by Masakazu Suzuki, which includes Shinchosha hit series such as 'Please Kill My Children' and 'Children Who Cannot Cut Cakes.'

For the original work, Hironori Jinno, a non-fiction writer who has authored 'The Behind-the-Scenes of Caregiving' (Bungeishunju) and 'Report on Ultra-Luxury Elderly Homes' (Diamond Inc.) as a former reporter for 'Weekly Bunshun,' has been recruited. The illustrations are by the up-and-coming Nozomi Ishizu, winner of the drawing category grand prize at the 1st Kurage Bunch Essay Non-Fiction Manga Awards, to depict the theme of 'caregiving.'

The manga depicts various topics and darkness that have come to light as social problems in recent years, including 'elderly caring for the elderly,' the '8050 problem,' staffing shortages in the nursing care industry, and the increase in social security costs. It is a work that serves as a trigger for all generations to face the 'caregiving problem,' which one cannot turn a blind eye to in an accelerating aging society.
