Synopsis So Far
[Volume 1]
"Go to Izu Nagaoka starting next week." Mamoru Hojo, an obstetrician/gynecologist aiming to be a laparoscopy professional at a university hospital, was ordered to transfer to Tenkei University Affiliated Izu Central Hospital (commonly known as Izunaka), the affiliated hospital furthest from Tokyo. He hears that Professor Saegusa imposes antiquated rules on his subordinates and rules the medical office in this unexpected demotion to the countryside. Immediately after arriving, Mamoru is forced to perform surgery with the professor, experiencing a difficult path ahead. However, he eventually learns that Professor Saegusa is a different person from his bad reputation in Tokyo. Mamoru grows while learning from senior doctors with rich personalities. What gives vitality to the exhausted young doctor is the rich seafood and mountain produce of the Izu Peninsula.
[Volume 2]
Mamoru Hojo decides to stay at the Izunaka Perinatal Center to learn more as a doctor. Amid his busy schedule, he deepens his relationships with senior doctors. One day, his heart races when he learns that Eisuke Kaizaki, a laparoscopy specialist he has long admired, will be transferring to his workplace. Kaizaki, who appeared at the Izunaka Perinatal Center, bewildered those around him with his arrogant and self-paced nature. However, his surgical skills are top-notch. He shows a strong presence even in laparoscopic surgeries of other clinical departments, and Mamoru is greatly inspired. Joining the team at the same time is medical intern Yume Asagaya. She is motivated but tends to spin her wheels, and Mamoru and other senior doctors struggle with how to handle her. Amidst this, a pregnant woman with cancer is transferred to this fortress of life in the Izu Peninsula. The team unites to face this difficult situation.
[Volume 3]
For an emergency patient transported by doctor helicopter, Mamoru Hojo succeeded in laparoscopic surgery with the help of a senior doctor. Taking this opportunity, Kaizaki wants to increase laparoscopic surgeries, but Professor Saegusa, the leader of the team, strictly ordered him, "If you want it, create a system that makes it possible." In such circumstances, intern Yume Asagaya, who got her first chance at a cesarean section, simply trembles under the heavy pressure, and Kaizaki and Asuka—geniuses of laparoscopy and laparotomy—spark off each other in their first surgery together. Then comes the grand year-end party. Mamoru is entrusted with organizing and hosting the banquet, where not only doctors but various staff members like nurses and midwives gather. Will this year-end party end peacefully...?
And in this work. Mamoru's girlfriend, Saya Orihara, who works vigorously as a nurse at the main hospital in Tokyo, takes a vacation and visits Izu. But the joy is short-lived, as Mamoru Hojo learns that she is suffering from a major illness.
"As a doctor, can I take a scalpel to the body of the one I love?"
Mamoru agonizes amidst conflict with Saya's father, Koichiro Orihara, who leads a medical corporation group in Yamagata.
Meanwhile, Seiichi Tagawa, the "philosopher of the operating room" who had guided Mamoru until now, had secretly made a decision—.
The commentary is provided by Naoko Igawa, who won the "Dietary Life Journalist Award, Journalism Category" for 'Chefs' Corona Disaster'. Ms. Igawa, who knows food and chefs deeply, talks about the series and this work from the perspective of a food novel. An ensemble drama of a young doctor's growth and uniquely individual doctors, depicted with Izu gourmet food. The increasingly smooth-sailing fourth installment is finally being published!
