Masashi Shimada (91), founder of Shimada House, will install 'Temperature and Humidity Display Clock Towers' in two locations—the Karasuyama Community Center Plaza in Chitose-Karasuyama, Setagaya Ward, and the Sengawa Station Plaza in Chofu City—as a personal donation project on June 18 (Thu) and 19 (Fri), 2026, respectively. Ribbon-cutting and lighting ceremonies will be held at each location.
The clock towers will play classical music daily at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, while displaying the current time, temperature, humidity, and heatstroke alerts. More than just a monument, these towers are designed as 'living symbols' that will integrate into the city and watch over Chitose-Karasuyama and Sengawa for decades to come.
[Installation Details] - Chitose-Karasuyama Community Center Plaza (Lighting on June 18) - 12:00 PM: Humoresque (Dvořák) - 4:00 PM: Amazing Grace (Hymn)
- Sengawa Station Plaza (Lighting on June 19) - 12:00 PM: Water Music (Handel) - 4:00 PM: Minuet (Mozart)
[Project Highlights] Founder Masashi Shimada initiated this project out of a strong desire to 'give back to the community that has supported me for so many years and create a symbol loved by the residents.' Recognizing the danger of extreme summer heat, the towers include temperature and humidity displays to help people protect their health. Following a meticulous process including 16 design revisions and full-scale modeling, the towers are set to become beloved living symbols for the local communities.
