SGC to Hold “Great Gold Exhibition” at Kyoto Takashimaya S.C., Featuring Life-Size Gold Shohei Ohtani Batter and Pitcher Statues

SGC Co., Ltd., a company engaged in the manufacturing and sale of gold products as well as the purchase of precious metals, will hold the “Great Gold Exhibition” at Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. for six days from May 20 to May 25, 2026. The venue will feature a special display of two life-size gold statues of Shohei Ohtani of the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers: “Golden Batter Shohei Ohtani” and “Golden Pitcher Shohei Ohtani.” This will be a rare opportunity to see both statues exhibited together. The works were produced by SGC, a pioneer in gold products, with Ohtani’s official approval, over a period of about two years. The batter statue uses 1,550 sheets of gold leaf and stands about 1.9 meters tall, matching Ohtani’s height; from the base to the tip of the bat, it measures about 2.4 meters. The pitcher statue uses 1,450 sheets of gold leaf and stands about 1.7 meters tall. The reference price is 50 million yen before tax, or 55 million yen including tax, for each statue, and 100 million yen before tax, or 110 million yen including tax, for the pair. The pricing references Ohtani’s 2024 “50-50” record and his achievement of hitting 50 or more home runs for two consecutive years. SGC will also launch the “Shohei Ohtani Pure Gold Collection,” including special-edition medals made with 100 grams of pure gold and measuring about 5.4 centimeters in diameter. Two versions, batter and pitcher, will be available, each with a planned selling price of 9,614,000 yen. Pure gold figures will also be sold in three types: “K24 Batter Shohei Ohtani,” “K24 Pitcher Shohei Ohtani,” and “K24 Two-Way Shohei Ohtani,” each available in 1/10 and 1/20 scale. The 1/10-scale batter and pitcher figures are priced at 23,430,000 yen each, while the 1/20-scale versions are priced at 6,820,000 yen each. The two-way figure is priced at 47,080,000 yen for the 1/10 scale and 13,860,000 yen for the 1/20 scale. Amid continued high retail gold prices in Japan and rising interest in gold, the “Great Gold Exhibition” will bring together more than 1,000 gold products. The event will showcase Buddhist altar fittings and statues, including a “golden orin” singing bowl crafted by a Living National Treasure, as well as popular oban and koban gold pieces, Japanese and Western tableware, lucky ornaments, and collectible items. The event will also offer on-site purchasing services for gold products and accessories. Visitors can have precious metals stored at home appraised for free using an X-ray analyzer and sold for cash on the spot. The exhibition will run from May 20 to May 25, 2026, at the 7th-floor event hall of Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. department store, located at 52 Shincho, Shijo-dori Kawaramachi Nishi-iru, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto. Opening hours are 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with closing at 6:00 p.m. on the final day. Admission is free.
