Chi Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Nobuaki Chiba), which provides the comprehensive childcare tech service "HoiCheese!" aiming to create children's happiness through the power of photography and food, held a work experience class on the theme of a school photo photographer's job at Tokyo Mirai Junior High School (Adachi-ku, Tokyo), a school for diversified learning (so-called special school for truancy).

The purpose of this class is for students to experience photography firsthand, learn the appeal of a job that brings emotion to others through photos, and express their own perspectives and interests through photography.

Implementation Background

According to a survey by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Reiwa 6 (2024), the number of elementary and junior high school students absent from school has exceeded a record high of 350,000, with about 30% of students answering that they "lack motivation for school life." The question is not only how to reduce the number of truant students, but also how to support these children and connect them to learning and society. (*)

In this context, Tokyo Mirai Junior High School, as a "school for diversified learning," has organized a special curriculum that considers the actual conditions of students who are absent from school and provides learning opportunities tailored to each individual student.

As creating a system where children themselves want to "learn" and "engage with society" is a challenge, Tokyo Mirai Junior High School, which provides new learning opportunities, and our company, which develops the school photo business, collaborated to implement an "experience of expressing one's own perspective and interests through photography without relying on words."

This initiative aims to be an example of education that supports children as a whole society.

Work Experience Content

On the day, a photographer from our company served as a lecturer, and after introducing the work of a school photo photographer, the students experienced taking photos using tablets.

The students were divided into groups and experienced both "photographing" and "being photographed." Students who were doing origami were recorded by the photographing students with tablets, and they took turns shooting. Afterwards, they selected one photo they took and discussed composition and expression with the lecturer.
