Sen Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Nobuaki Chiba; hereinafter "the Company"), which provides "Hai Cheese!," a comprehensive childcare tech service aiming to create happiness for children through the power of photography and food, conducted a vocational experience class themed around the job of a school photographer at Tokyo Mirai Junior High School (Adachi-ku, Tokyo), a school for learning diversity (a so-called special school for non-attending students).

The purpose of this class was for students to experience actual photography, learn the appeal of a job that delivers emotion to others through photos, and express their own perspectives and interests through their photography.

[Background of Implementation]
According to a survey by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for fiscal year 2024, the number of non-attending elementary and junior high school students reached a record high of over 350,000, with approximately 30% of these students responding that they "feel no motivation for school life." There is a question not only of how to reduce the number of non-attending students, but also how to support these children and connect them to learning and society. (*)

Under these circumstances, Tokyo Mirai Junior High School, as a "school for learning diversity," organizes a special curriculum that takes into account the realities of non-attending students, providing learning opportunities tailored to each individual student.

While creating a system where children themselves can feel like they "want to learn" and "want to engage with society" is a challenge, Tokyo Mirai Junior High School, which provides new learning opportunities, and our Company, which develops a school photography business, collaborated to implement an "experience of expressing one's own perspective and interests through photography without relying on words."

This initiative aims to be an example of education that supports children through the society as a whole.

[Vocational Experience Content]
On the day, a photographer from our Company served as the instructor. After introducing the work of a school photographer, the students experienced taking photos using tablets.

Students were divided into groups and experienced both the "photographer side" and the "subject side." Students who were working on origami tasks were recorded by the students taking the photos on tablets, and they took turns in their roles. Afterwards, they selected one photo from those they had taken and discussed composition and expression with the instructor.

In the second half of the class, we introduced the necessary skills, the type of person suited for the job, and the rewarding aspects of being a school photographer, incorporating actual experience.

[Student Feedback]
In the post-class survey, many comments expressed new discoveries and a sense of the appeal of the job.

- "I am very bad at being photographed, but I was able to learn the value of capturing things in photos."
- "I learned that I can capture scenes that parents cannot usually see."
- "When taking photos, I want to think about what kind of scene I want to capture."

This class was an opportunity for students to encounter not only photography techniques but also the "value of photography" and the appeal of a "job that delivers emotion to people."

[Significance of This Initiative]
While reports on non-attendance often emphasize issues and difficult aspects, schools for learning diversity are making progress with initiatives that allow students to have points of contact with society while learning at their own pace.

This class served as one of the opportunities for students to encounter their interests and areas of strength through experiential learning and to foster confidence.

Our Company, under the vision of "Bringing more smiles to children. Becoming an existence that is always trusted," will continue to cooperate with career education and experiential learning in educational settings as a company involved in children's growth.
