Sekai Bunka Publishing will release the first art collection by popular illustrator and picture book author Rei Kurahashi, titled "Rei Rei Kurahashi Art Collection," on Thursday, July 2nd.
When it was pre-sold at the "Rei Kurahashi Exhibition" held at Matsuya Ginza (June 17, 2026 (Wed) - June 29, 2026 (Mon)), it garnered strong support from many fans daily and sold out. A reprint has been decided before its general release. As the long-awaited first collection of works, this is an essential, permanent keepsake that condenses the trajectory of Rei Kurahashi's creative journey into one volume.
◆ The First Art Collection Tracing 10 Years of an Artist's Journey ◆
This book features approximately 340 original artworks created by Kurahashi from 2015 to 2026, arranged chronologically. Kurahashi has consistently depicted a world full of exotic charm, even while transitioning her production methods from analog to digital in 2017. With her rich illustrations, ranging from charming and romantic expressions to pop art with a hint of shadow, she has captivated many people.
◆ A Book Condensing Beauty from Worldview to Binding ◆
The included works feature the latest key visual art from the "Rei Kurahashi Exhibition" and newly drawn panoramic pieces. It also includes an interview that delves into the origins of her creativity, such as motifs she repeatedly draws, artists who have influenced her, and time spent with her beloved cat. By touching upon the thoughts behind the works and the background of each painting's creation, this book allows for a deeper appreciation of Kurahashi's expressive world.
The binding was designed by designer Yo Fujii. The book itself is a special edition for savoring Kurahashi's world. Housed in a highly preservable case with elegant foil stamping, it is a beautiful creation that you will want to cherish. Thin paper, reminiscent of those found at Parisian flea markets, is interspersed throughout the main text, containing valuable rough sketches. Every detail of the bookmaking, down to the choice of paper texture and materials, reflects Fujii's respect for Kurahashi and her aesthetic sensibilities. Please slowly turn the pages and enjoy the artist's perspective and her approximately 10-year journey.
