Seven-Eleven Japan Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Tomoyuki Akutsu) will sequentially launch "Hotcakes with Butter Cream," made with Hokkaido-grown confectionery flour "Hokkaido Shiro," at Seven-Eleven stores in Hokkaido starting Tuesday, July 14.

The flour "Hokkaido Shiro" used in this product was developed over many years by the Kitami Agricultural Experiment Station, Hokkaido Institute of Advanced Industrial Technology, and is the first confectionery flour developed in Hokkaido. It is produced by JA Kitasorachi. Following the first installment, "Fluffy Thick-Cut Roll (using Hokkaido-grown wheat and milk)," released in April of this year, we have developed this second product as part of our ongoing local production for local consumption initiative, continuing to use excellent Hokkaido-grown raw ingredients.

A fluffy melt-in-your-mouth texture unique to confectionery flour "Hokkaido Shiro"

Compared to wheat for noodles and bread, "Hokkaido Shiro" has less stickiness when made into dough, and while it has thickness, it is characterized by a fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. When warmed, the rich sweetness of the maple sauce that has soaked into the dough spreads, and the butter on the surface and the butter cream between the two layers of dough melt, allowing you to enjoy a luxurious butter flavor.

Using Hokkaido-grown soft wheat flour born from repeated varietal improvement

While Hokkaido is a major wheat-producing region, it has primarily produced medium-gluten flour suitable for noodles and high-gluten flour for bread. It was said that there were no Hokkaido-grown soft wheat varieties suitable for making sweets.

Seven-Eleven's sweets "Fluffy Thick-Cut Roll (using Hokkaido-grown wheat and milk)" (sales will be sequentially discontinued), which used "Hokkaido Shiro," a Hokkaido-grown soft wheat flour born from varietal improvement, was also well-received for its "voluminous yet fluffy texture that can be eaten in an instant." Now, as the second installment of sweets using "Hokkaido Shiro," "Hotcakes with Butter Cream" has been realized.
