Seiko Watch Corporation will release one limited edition and three regular models from its <Seiko Presage> Classic Series, featuring dials inspired by the beauty of Tomioka Silk. The scheduled release date is Friday, July 10, with suggested retail prices ranging from JPY 129,800 to JPY 148,500 (tax included).
This beautiful dial, born from an encounter with Tomioka Silk, merges Seiko's over a-century-long history of watchmaking with the tradition of the 'Tomioka Silk Mill,' which contributed to the development of Japan's silk industry. The Tomioka Silk Mill was registered as a World Heritage site in 2014, and the 'Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization' was established in 2021 to pass on its technology and culture to the future. Seiko Presage will support the succession of sericulture in the Tomioka region by donating a portion of this model's sales to the organization.
A key feature of the product is a new, intricate stamped pattern on the dial that expresses the draping texture of fine Tomioka silk. The dial of the limited-edition model (HCC010J) reproduces the elegant luster and whiteness of the rare, high-grade silkworm variety 'Gunma Hoso' with a pearl-like coating. The strap uses dark brown leather inspired by the beautiful brickwork of the Tomioka Silk Mill, creating a classic look when paired with the pink-gold colored case. Limited to 500 pieces in Japan, the case back is marked with the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization's logo and a serial number, and it comes with a pocket square made of 'Gunma Hoso' silk.
The regular models come in three colors: 'Shironeri' (the natural color of silk), 'Wakatake-iro' (a fresh green), and 'Sakura-iro' (a pale pink). Models HCC001J and HCC002J feature stainless steel bracelets, while HCC003J has a brown leather strap inspired by a cherry tree trunk.
All models share a 38.0mm case size that offers the dignity of a dress watch. The installed mechanical movement, Caliber 6R51, boasts a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, combining practicality with elegance.
