DECOR SEIKO Launches Limited Edition Collaboration Clock with Metal Artist and Nitten Chairman Ryohei Miyata

Seiko Watch Corporation (Representative Director, Chairman & CEO & CCO: Shinji Hattori; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will launch a limited edition of 10 table clocks, the 'Springen Clock 'Sho',' from its top-tier clock brand DECOR SEIKO, starting Friday, October 9th. The clock combines a cast sculpture by metal artist Ryohei Miyata with a skeleton movement. The suggested retail price is 3,300,000 yen (tax included).

Mr. Miyata served as the 22nd Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs from 2016 to 2021 and is currently active as the Chairman of the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Nitten and a member of the Japan Art Academy. He is a leading metal artist in Japan. 'Springen,' meaning 'flight' in German, is Mr. Miyata's representative series featuring dynamic dolphins. The series was born from his experience of encountering dolphins swimming vigorously in the winter sea when he left his hometown for Tokyo. His works are said to bring courage and energy to viewers.

Now, a new collaborative work is being released, harmonizing an original cast frame created for DECOR SEIKO with a skeleton movement.

Collaboration between Ryohei Miyata's representative series 'Springen' and DECOR SEIKO

This work sculpts the image of life's dynamism and flight towards the future through three dolphins soaring over the ocean, huddling together and surging upwards. Each dolphin can appear as family or companions, possessing the charm to allow viewers to imagine different stories. Their figures soaring through the waves while staying close show new expressions each time they are viewed, leaving room for rich interpretation.

By combining the dynamic cast frame with a beautiful skeleton movement featuring precise gear trains, a work that embodies beautiful art craftsmanship and precise technology has been created.

Cast Frame Handled by Ryohei Miyata Himself

Mr. Miyata personally handles all processes, from creating the prototype to assembly after casting, coloring, and decorative finishing.

In the decorative finishing using the traditional maki-e technique, various foil materials such as pure gold foil, blue gold foil, silver foil, and colored foil are skillfully used to express the beauty and brilliance of the waves. Through these techniques, this work possesses depth, variety, and rich expression.

Finally, Mr. Miyata engraves his own signature, completing a unique craftwork.

Japanese Quartz Skeleton Movement

The clock body incorporates Seiko's original quartz skeleton movement with a precise and beautiful gear train that appears to float in the air.
