SOCIAL SQUARE Amagasaki and student group yowa e to hold “Shapes of Vulnerability Exhibition” on May 23, 2026

SOCIAL SQUARE Amagasaki, a multifunctional welfare service office for people with disabilities operated by the nonprofit organization Social Design Works, will collaborate with yowa e, a university student group based around the Amagasaki City Youth Exchange Center, to hold the “Shapes of Vulnerability Exhibition” on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The event was planned by university students working under the theme “loving imperfection.” It is designed as an exhibition and exchange space where participants can express their own vulnerability and struggles in life without denying them. Through talk sessions, artwork displays, workshops, and sales booths, the event will create an opportunity for local residents to reflect together on being their authentic selves. In today’s society, people are often expected to stay positive and keep striving in settings such as social media, schools, and workplaces, making it increasingly difficult to voice weakness or discouragement. This event offers a chance to reframe vulnerability not as something negative, but as a sign of individuality and proof of a person’s lived experience. SOCIAL SQUARE Amagasaki aims not only to provide welfare services for people with disabilities, but also to support the challenges of local young people and those engaged in creative expression. Through this collaboration with yowa e, the organizers hope to open a community space that stays close to people’s struggles in life. By going beyond the conventional framework of welfare and support, the event seeks to foster dialogue and empathy in the community through a project planned and communicated by young people themselves. SOCIAL SQUARE Amagasaki provides support under the theme of being “a place where each person can search for points of contact between their individuality and society according to their own story.” Its services include employment transition support for people who face difficulty working, independence training for people with experiences such as school refusal or social withdrawal, and the operation of a community-building space where diverse people can gather. The facility also includes a space where local residents can freely plan workshops and events, and it will continue working to improve community welfare as a new hub connecting welfare and community development.
