Scohia Pharma, Inc. (Headquarters: Fujisawa, Kanagawa, hereinafter 'the Company') announced today that it has entered into a global exclusive license agreement with Neurocrine Switzerland GmbH, a subsidiary of Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (Headquarters: US, hereinafter 'Neurocrine'), regarding the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of SCO-483 (Neurocrine development code: NBI-1852737), a novel selective melanocortin-2 receptor (MC2R) antagonist targeting rare metabolic diseases.
Under the terms of this partnership, the Company will receive an upfront payment of USD 20 million and is eligible to receive up to USD 550 million in potential milestone payments based on R&D progress. Furthermore, the Company holds the right to receive tiered royalties ranging from a single-digit to low double-digit percentage based on global sales of SCO-483.
Masanori Watanabe, President and CEO of the Company, stated the following:
'Neurocrine, with its solid track record and scientific leadership in the neurology and endocrinology spaces, is the ideal partner for maximizing the value of SCO-483. Through this partnership, we will steadily advance our shared mission of delivering innovative treatment options to patients suffering from serious diseases.'
A portion of this R&D was conducted with support from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) under the Drug Discovery Support Project / Pre-designation Practical Application Support Project for Orphan Drugs (Project Title: Development of a Therapeutic Drug for 21-Hydroxylase Deficiency (S-483)).
About SCO-483
SCO-483 is a selective melanocortin-2 receptor (MC2R) antagonist discovered by the Company. It targets the over-activation of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) signaling and acts on the primary pathogenic factor in Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) and ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome.
In preclinical data obtained to date, this agent has demonstrated efficacy in suppressing pathological changes caused by excessive ACTH signaling, suggesting its potential to become a new treatment option addressing the unmet medical needs in classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia and ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome.
