SBI Insurance Launches Hail Alert Email Service Utilizing First-of-its-Kind Proprietary Hail Prediction Model for Direct Insurers

SBI Insurance Co., Ltd. Recognizing that an important mission of a non-life insurance company is not only to provide comprehensive coverage in the event of an emergency but also to suppress damage by preventing it from occurring, SBI Insurance has conducted two Proof of Concept (PoC) trials since March 2025. Having confirmed a certain level of hail prediction accuracy, the company is now releasing this service to support disaster prevention and mitigation against hail.

In recent years, the increasing frequency and severity of hail disasters due to global warming have led to a rising trend in cases of vehicle damage. While hail damage is considered difficult to predict in advance, taking measures such as moving vehicles to covered parking or using vehicle body covers can help prevent or mitigate such damage.
SBI Insurance has been working on building a hail prediction model with the goal of identifying the possibility of hail in advance and alerting customers. Since March 2025, the company has conducted PoC trials aimed at developing and refining the prediction model by utilizing automobile insurance payment records and meteorological big data.
As a result, verification for practical application has been completed. From March 30 onwards, the company will predict the possibility of hail at the municipal level for the following day based on daily weather information and begin sending alert emails to automobile insurance policyholders residing in prefectures where there is a risk of hail.
In addition to the alert service, in partnership with Relo Club, Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Sakae Okamoto), SBI Insurance will offer custom-made body covers provided by AUTOLAB Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Shun Senda; hereinafter "AUTOLAB") at a special price to its automobile insurance policyholders. By promoting an environment where it is easier to implement measures for damage prevention and mitigation, the company will support customers in enjoying their car life with peace of mind.
