SBI Insurance Launches Hail Alert Email Service Using Proprietary Hail Disaster Prediction Model—A First for Direct Insurers
SBI Insurance has launched a hail alert email service for auto insurance policyholders, utilizing a proprietary hail disaster prediction model—a first in the direct insurance industry.
SBI Insurance Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Takashi Ono; hereinafter "SBI Insurance") has independently developed a hail disaster prediction model (hereinafter "the Model"), a first for a direct insurer*1. Starting March 30, the company will begin sending hail alert emails to its auto insurance policyholders*2.
Recognizing that an insurance company's mission is not only to provide comprehensive coverage in the event of a loss but also to mitigate damage by preventing it, SBI Insurance has conducted two Proof of Concept (PoC) trials since March 2025. Having confirmed the accuracy of the hail prediction, the company is now launching this service to support disaster prevention and mitigation against hail.

In recent years, the frequency and severity of hail disasters due to global warming have led to an increasing number of vehicle damage cases. While hail damage is considered difficult to predict in advance, taking measures such as moving vehicles to covered parking or using vehicle body covers can help prevent or mitigate such damage.
SBI Insurance has been working on building a hail prediction model to identify the potential for hail and alert customers. Since March 2025, the company has conducted PoCs aimed at developing and refining the model by utilizing historical auto insurance payment data and meteorological big data.
Following the successful completion of verification for practical use, starting March 30, the company will use daily weather information to predict the likelihood of hail by municipality for the following day. Alerts will be sent via email to auto insurance policyholders residing in prefectures where hail is predicted.
In conjunction with the alert service, SBI Insurance has partnered with Relo Club, Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Sakaru Okamoto) to offer custom-made body covers provided by AUTOLAB (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Shun Senda; hereinafter "AUTOLAB") at a special price to SBI Insurance policyholders. By creating an environment that makes it easier to implement measures to prevent and mitigate damage, the company aims to support customers in enjoying a secure car life.
SBI Insurance remains committed to creating value that satisfies its customers through the appropriate use of digital technology in its products and services.
