SBI Art Auction Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tomohiro Fujiyama) will hold the "80th SBI Art Auction | Modern and Contemporary Art" on Friday, May 22nd and Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, and the "81st SBI Art Auction | A Passage from the Important Japanese Collection" on Saturday, May 30th, at Hillside Forum (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).
In May, we will host both our representative auction and a single-owner collection sale. The first week's "80th SBI Art Auction | Modern and Contemporary Art" is our flagship sale, broadly introducing modern and contemporary art from Japan and abroad. Meanwhile, the second week's "81st SBI Art Auction | A Passage from the Important Japanese Collection" is a special sale compiling a single collector's collection, featuring multiple genres including Japanese paintings, Western-style paintings, and Ukiyo-e.
In the "Modern and Contemporary Art" sale, Lee Ufan's "From Point" (1980) will be featured as a top lot, with an estimated hammer price of 50 million to 80 million yen. Also scheduled for exhibition are Mr.'s "Jun - Coast at Dusk -" (2021), ahead of his first solo exhibition in 11 years at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, "Mr.'s Solo Exhibition: Someday on a Sunny Day, I'm Sure We'll Meet Again."; Joseph Kosuth's neon work "Subject and Object" (1966), a rare piece in the domestic art market and our first offering; and Damien Hirst's "For the Love of God, Laugh" (2007), currently featured in a large-scale solo exhibition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Seoul. These works connect with the current domestic and international art scene.
On the other hand, the "A Passage from the Important Japanese Collection" sale will feature works such as Matazo Kayama's "Nude Study" (1977), Hiroshi Senju's "Tidewater," and Giorgio de Chirico's "Piazza d'Italia" (1974). The lineup is curated through the perspective of a single collector's acquisition, traversing diverse contexts such as Japanese painting, contemporary art, and metaphysical painting.
