Special Feature URL: https://www.satofull.jp/static/special/use.php In the Furusato Nozei (hometown tax) program, donors can specify how their contributions are used. Municipalities offer a diverse range of options, including education, child-rearing support, disaster prevention, and the promotion of local industries. This special feature aims to help donors better understand how their contributions are utilized. It provides information on how to specify the use of donations, explains the available options, and showcases case studies of donation utilization from four different municipalities. ■ Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Mentions 'Donation Usage' in July 2025 Notice According to the "Survey Results on the Current Status of Furusato Nozei (FY2025)" released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in July 2025, 1,685 municipalities—representing 94.3% of all designated entities—allow donors to "select a field of use," while 555 municipalities (31.1%) allow donors to "select specific projects." Among the 10 fields available for selection, "Child-rearing/Childcare" received the highest number of donations in FY2024 with over 8.55 million contributions, followed by "Education/Human Resource Development" and "Regional/Industrial Promotion."
