Ebisu Garden Place (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will host the first-ever event, "Hizen Yoshida Ware × YEBISU Marché," on Saturday, April 11th, and Sunday, April 12th, 2026. This event introduces the appeal of Hizen Yoshida Ware, porcelain that blends 400 years of history with contemporary sensibilities. It is a joint project with "YEBISU Marché," held regularly on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.
Hizen Yoshida Ware is a historic porcelain passed down for over 400 years in "Ureshino," located in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture. Characterized by its "free craftsmanship" that is not bound by specific styles, it continues to evolve with the times, from practical vessels like the iconic polka-dot teapots and teacups, to modern designs tailored to contemporary lifestyles. This event will bring together five kilns that are creating new trends through new challenges while preserving the tradition of Hizen Yoshida Ware. Visitors can enjoy conversations with the artisans and immerse themselves in the world of ceramics where tradition and innovation merge. Furthermore, alongside the porcelain, "Ureshino Tea," a local specialty, will also be sold, offering a special two-day experience where you can savor the climate and culture of Saga and Ureshino with all five senses, right here in Tokyo.
Additionally, "HARVEST," which has roots in Ureshino and deals in kitchen tools and tableware in Ebisu, will make its debut appearance. This will be an opportunity to gain insight into incorporating craftsmanship into daily life, alongside Yoshida Ware and Ureshino Tea.
At Ebisu Garden Place, we value providing opportunities for visitors to encounter new values and choices in their lives through experiences that connect them with regional culture and craftsmanship. We invite you to take this opportunity to experience the multifaceted charm of Ureshino and encounter new sensibilities and culture. 《Hizen Yoshida Ware × YEBISU Marché Event Overview》 Dates: April 11th (Sat), 12th (Sun), 2026, 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Venue: Ebisu Garden Place, Center Plaza Admission: Free Organizers: Sapporo Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., NKB Inc. ※Subject to change or cancellation due to weather conditions, etc. 《About Hizen Yoshida Ware》 The region spanning Saga and Nagasaki was historically known as "Hizen" and remains a production area for ceramics with many active kilns. The origin of Hizen Yoshida Ware dates back to 1598 (Keicho 3), when one of the Korean potters brought back during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's expedition to Korea was ordered by the then Saga feudal lord, Nabeshima Naoshige, to start pottery in the Yoshida area.
Ureshino City in Saga Prefecture, the home of Hizen Yoshida Ware, is blessed with beautiful nature and abundant resources. It is known as a region for "Ureshino Onsen," famous as one of Japan's three best hot springs for beautiful skin, and the nationally renowned "Ureshino Tea." Many kilns in this region utilize these local characteristics to manufacture tea ware, and the "polka-dot patterned teapots and teacups," which symbolize the Showa era dining table, are one of Hizen Yoshida Ware's representative products.
The production of these ceramics is primarily a manual process using natural clay and glazes. During this process, pinholes and black spots inevitably occur, leading to "off-spec" items that cannot be sold at full price. Kilns in the Yoshida district have affectionately named these "dimples and moles" and offer them at a slightly reduced price. Five kilns participating in this "Dimples and Moles" project will be exhibiting at this event.
