Sanko Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; President and CEO: Shuji Kato), which envisions itself as a "creator of living environments" and is expanding beyond building materials sales to realize richer living spaces for all, has announced a new initiative to support second careers for sumo wrestlers retiring from Anjikawa Stable (Head Coach: Anjikawa Ryoji, former sekiwake Amakaze). The program aims to help wrestlers secure stable employment and income after leaving the sumo world. Anjikawa Stable includes sekiwake Anseikin Tan, who is preparing for a comeback at the Nagoya tournament.
As our business primarily operates in the three prefectures of the Tokai region, we aim to expand this support system in the near future by involving building materials industry associations, creating reception networks across all 47 prefectures, and encouraging similar second-career support programs in other industries.
The construction materials industry currently faces visible labor shortages, particularly in physically demanding roles, due to a declining youth population, an aging workforce, and insufficient logistics and delivery personnel. Sanko highly values the physical strength and mental resilience sumo wrestlers develop through their training, and we believe this project will serve as an effective solution that benefits both retired wrestlers and the building materials industry.
As the first step in this project, three wrestlers from Anjikawa Stable (planned) will visit the Smart Modulo manufacturing facility in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture, on July 1 (Wed) at 14:00. Smart Modulo is a mobile wooden structure that has been used as temporary housing following disasters such as the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The wrestlers will participate in job experience activities and facility tours.
We would be honored by your media coverage of this event.
Information materials will be provided to those interested in this initiative.
