SalivaTech Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture; CEO: Makoto Sunamura; hereinafter "SalivaTech") signed an MOU with Sri Lanka's Hayleys Lifesciences (Pvt) Ltd. (hereinafter "Hayleys") on February 23, 2026, to conduct joint research aimed at verifying the effectiveness of saliva-based cancer risk testing in Sri Lanka.
Screening tests like "SalivaChecker," which allow for the collection of samples at home or any preferred location without physical burden, have the potential to improve medical outcomes by expanding access to advanced, non-invasive diagnostic solutions. Moving forward, SalivaTech will work with the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB) at the University of Colombo to develop saliva metabolome correction technology.
The signing ceremony took place at the Hayleys Group headquarters in Colombo, attended by Akio Isomata, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka; Mohan Pandithage, Chairman of the Hayleys Group; Wasaba Jayasekera, Managing Director of Hayleys Lifesciences; and representatives from JICA Sri Lanka and JETRO Colombo. The agreement was mediated by Itochu Corporation, with executives from its Mumbai, Singapore, and Colombo offices in attendance.
SalivaTech's "SalivaChecker" is a service that evaluates current cancer risk by performing high-precision analysis of metabolite concentrations in saliva and using AI (learning models) to determine whether the metabolite characteristics are closer to those of individuals with cancer or those without. It is non-invasive, requires no blood sampling, and has been used by more than 110,000 people in Japan.
Hayleys Lifesciences is the healthcare subsidiary of the Hayleys Group, Sri Lanka's largest listed conglomerate. The company handles the import and distribution of medical devices, analytical instruments, consumables, reagents, and related services.
Makoto Sunamura, CEO of SalivaTech, stated: "Saliva-based cancer risk testing was developed to create a society where changes in the body are captured early, allowing for intervention at the early-stage cancer or precancerous lesion phase. We sincerely hope to contribute to the well-being of the people of Sri Lanka."
### About SalivaChecker: Saliva-Based Cancer Risk Test
This test evaluates current cancer risk by analyzing metabolite concentrations in saliva with high precision and processing the data with AI (learning models). The process is completed by simply collecting saliva at home and returning it to SalivaTech. Without putting a burden on the body, a single test can evaluate the risk for multiple cancers (5 types for men: lung, stomach, colorectal, pancreatic, and oral; 6 types for women, including breast cancer). By encouraging appropriate medical consultation based on the results, SalivaChecker contributes to the early detection and intervention of cancer.
### SalivaTech’s Mission
To contribute to the early detection and intervention of diseases through screening test operations. To act as a bridge between self-care and medical care, proposing systems to society that protect "lives" and "bodies." To collaborate with academia, pursue continuous technological development and clinical research, and return the results to society as quickly as possible.
