The Software Association of Japan (SAJ) (Address: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Kunihiro Tanaka; Abbreviation: SAJ) has compiled and released "The Current State and Future of Frontier AI - Six Recommendations from a Broad Perspective" through its Cybersecurity Committee AI Security WG.

With the rapid evolution of frontier AI, concerns are growing about the discovery of vulnerabilities and the sophistication and acceleration of cyberattacks. On the other hand, attention often focuses on specific models or individual incidents, leading to cases where the fundamental approach to AI, the nature of public-private collaboration, and security measures are overlooked.

This proposal addresses how organizations should approach and engage with AI, while acknowledging that the "speed" of attacks and defenses will change due to frontier AI. It summarizes six recommendations as guidelines for executives, system administrators, software developers, and others to prepare for the AI era.

Overview of Recommendations

1. "Don't Be Swayed": Perceive AI as a structural change, not an isolated event.

2. "The Courage to Stop and the Resolve to Halt": Anticipate situations where systems or services may stop.

3. "Understand the Costs Involved": Budget for personnel, systems, and finances in the AI era.

4. "Do What Needs to Be Done": Thoroughly implement basic security measures.

5. "Indispensable Collective Defense": Bridge the "defense capability gap" for small and medium-sized enterprises.

6. "It's All About the Users": Continue investing in people.

This proposal emphasizes that rather than viewing AI as requiring special responses or measures, it is crucial to calmly engage with it, thoroughly implement basic practices, foster public-private collaboration, and continue investing in people, especially in the AI era.

SAJ hopes that through this proposal, organizations will be able to fundamentally address frontier AI without being swayed by excessive anxiety or temporary trends, and thoroughly implement essential cybersecurity measures.
