Bear Detection AI & Remote Monitoring Service Utilizing Cloud Cameras Now Available

(Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President: Nobuaki Nishimura, hereinafter "Safie Security") are pleased to announce the launch of a bear countermeasures solution this summer. This solution combines Safie's cloud camera footage with AI-powered automatic bear detection, "AI-App (Ai-App) Bear Detection," and visual confirmation through Safie Security's remote monitoring.

This service will be offered through a rental plan, targeting local governments nationwide and businesses at risk of wildlife intrusion.

Background of Service Provision

In recent years, sightings and appearances of bears have increased, leading to more severe human casualties. According to an announcement by the Ministry of the Environment (*2), the number of human casualties due to bears reached 238 in fiscal year 2025, marking the highest number of deaths and injuries in the past five years. Furthermore, the emergence of "urban bears," which have become accustomed to humans and sounds, making traditional deterrence measures less effective, impacts not only human lives but also the regional economy.

In response, the government has formulated a "Bear Damage Countermeasures Package" (*3), strengthening measures such as expanding subsidies for collecting and providing information on sightings using the latest technologies like ICT and drones, by designating bears as "Designated Management Wildlife."

To meet these societal needs, Safie's "Video AI Technology" has been integrated with Safie Security's "Remote Monitoring" to provide this service, enabling one-stop collection, confirmation, and notification of sighting information based on facts.

Main Features and Service Overview

1 Easy Introduction of "Support for Collecting and Providing Sighting Information Using ICT," Eligible for Subsidies, Through Rental

The cameras are available for rent, allowing for easy implementation. Additionally, this service may be eligible for subsidies as "Support for Collecting and Providing Sighting Information Using ICT," which the government recognizes as a qualifying expense for Designated Management Wildlife Countermeasures Projects. (This does not guarantee eligibility for subsidies. Please confirm and complete procedures with your contracting party.)

2 AI Service Utilizing the AI Solution Platform "Safie AI Studio"

Since January 2025, for approximately one year, Safie has been engaged in the development of video AI solutions for various sites through projects such as the "AI Solution Platform" selected for NEDO's (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) "Research and Development Project for Strengthening Post-5G Information Communication System Infrastructure / Survey of Advanced Cases of Data and Generative AI Utilization."

This service utilizes animal detection AI technology developed through the aforementioned initiatives and realized on "Safie AI Studio," a platform for developers provided by Safie. The AI detects bears within the field of view of the cloud cameras.

3 Visual Confirmation After AI Detection to Prevent False Alarms and Provide Highly Accurate Information

After AI detection, Safie Security immediately performs "visual confirmation" of the footage. By reviewing footage from various outdoor sites, we provide highly accurate information on bear sightings along with factual video data to our clients. This remotely supports regional economic activities struggling with labor shortages.

4 24-Hour Monitoring Possible in Intrusion Areas from "Mountainous Regions" to "Rivers" and Urban Areas

By installing cameras in areas with a high possibility of intrusion from mountainous regions through river areas into urban areas, a 24-hour monitoring system can be established. Real-time AI detection and visual confirmation allow for prompt notification of bear sightings to relevant parties by the contractor.

We will strive to manage each region via the cloud to create area maps of bear and wildlife damage sightings, thereby revitalizing local economies.

Future Plans

Regarding the provision of the bear countermeasures solution combining "AI-App Bear Detection" and "Remote Monitoring," we will collaborate on demonstration experiments for detecting intrusions into rivers with municipalities and businesses considering bear countermeasures.

Furthermore, in areas where bears appear, some regions also face issues such as crop damage from wild boars, Japanese deer, Japanese monkeys, and other wildlife.

This service, through "monitoring," can also be utilized for preventing wildlife damage other than bears, which are analyzed by AI. Moving forward, based on this solution, we will consider creating area maps of bear and wildlife damage sightings by managing each region via the cloud, and we will strive to revitalize local economies.
