MUJI Launches New 'Wood Armless Sofa for Relaxation' Optimized for Modern Living

Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the company behind MUJI (based in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President: Satoshi Shimizu), will begin rolling out the 'Wood Armless Sofa for Relaxation'—a product designed for compact modern living spaces—at MUJI stores and their online store nationwide starting Wednesday, May 27.

In recent years, housing, particularly in urban areas, has become more compact. Amid these changes, there is a growing demand for furniture that offers both space efficiency and comfort. MUJI’s 'Armless Sofa,' known for maximizing effective seat area while minimizing overall size, has been widely popular among customers.

Building upon this, MUJI is now launching the newly improved 'Wood Armless Sofa for Relaxation,' redesigned to harmonize better with living spaces and allow for easier coordination with other furniture.

This product utilizes the wood spring structure found in MUJI's popular 'Wooden Bed Frame.' This gives the frame itself a supple cushioning effect, while the seat cushions feature built-in pocket coils, ensuring comfort whether sitting or lying down. Additionally, by refining cushion thickness and frame shape, the design reduces visual pressure, making it easier to integrate into various rooms.

By adopting a wood spring structure—a technology successfully used in MUJI's 'Wooden Bed Frame'—the frame provides flexible cushioning. Furthermore, built-in pocket coils in the seat cushions offer long-lasting durability, balance stability, and comfort for both sitting and napping.

■ Armless, minimalist design that blends into any room
Compared to previous models, the cushion thickness and frame geometry have been optimized for a clean, sleek look that minimizes visual crowding. The armless design ensures that even on smaller frames, the seating surface is expansive, allowing for comfortable relaxation. The sofa is available in three interior-friendly colors: Greige, Brown, and Gray.

Compatible with MUJI's 'Mattress with Legs' and 'Wooden Bed Frame,' the leg components are now offered in both wood and new, slender steel designs. Users can choose between 12cm and 20cm heights, allowing for customization based on body size and preferred sitting/standing ease.

The series also features a chaise longue and an ottoman. By combining these, users can create a chaise sofa for stretching out, or use them as individual stools, offering a variety of configurations to fit diverse lifestyles and spaces.
