■ "Uneven Willow" Series
We learned the traditional Indian handcrafted technique of creating wrinkles by twisting and squeezing. The "Uneven Willow" series uses fabric rooted in Indian life, designed to be comfortable even in hot and humid climates, and employs traditional "handcrafted wrinkle processing" techniques. After sewing, artisans individually twist each piece by hand to finish it, allowing customers to enjoy uneven and random wrinkles. The unique textured surface and three-dimensional feel keep the fabric away from the skin, enhancing breathability. This is ancient Indian wisdom for coolness. Even if the wrinkles settle with wear or washing, they can be recreated to your liking by twisting the fabric after washing and drying. It can be worn without worrying about wrinkles and stored compactly when twisted, making it convenient for carrying.
Furthermore, Ryohin Keikaku aims to revitalize production areas and ensure stable employment by learning about fabrics rooted in Indian life and wisdom for comfortable living in hot regions, and by working on product development locally.
■ Other apparel and goods inspired by Indian life also released this season
・Madras Check
Madras Check fabric is woven slowly on traditional shuttle looms. Because the warp threads are not under much tension and are woven with minimal sizing, the fabric has a plump, airy feel. The loosely woven fabric allows wind to pass between the threads, providing good breathability, making it suitable for summer clothing. Unlike high-speed looms, differences in weaving speed and thread tension create an uneven density, so the finish and pattern of each fabric piece vary, allowing customers to enjoy a natural, irregular texture that is not uniform. We utilize fabrics with some weaving irregularities and slubs, removing only minimal defects like holes or stains that would affect wear, which occur during the production process.
・Block Print
Block Print is a traditional Indian hand-dyeing method using wooden blocks. Dyes are applied to patterns hand-carved into wooden blocks, and colors and patterns are layered slowly by hand. The natural color irregularities,かすれ (fading/blurring), and にじみ (bleeding) unique to handcrafting create a uniquely rich expression. In a modern era that often pursues perfection and uniformity, Muji values the traces of craftsmanship inherent in handmade products.
