Ryobi Group is pleased to announce that the 3rd "Setouchi Mikke Mikke! Shodoshima Spanish Mackerel Festival" event, which conveys the attractive ingredients of Setouchi and the local culture behind them, will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Mori no Machi Grace (Okayama City).
This event is the 3rd installment of the "Setouchi Mikke Mikke!" project, which focuses on "carefully selected items" discovered in the Setouchi area and values connections with the local community. This time, the event focuses on the rare "Shodoshima-produced Spanish Mackerel," which is often landed near Shodoshima but shipped outside the island, making opportunities to encounter it with a "place of origin label" limited both on and off the island.
An experiential event to enjoy Shodoshima-produced Spanish Mackerel with all five senses
On the day of the event, there will be a demonstration of straw-grilled Shodoshima-produced Spanish mackerel, directly sourced from fishermen. You can enjoy the charm of the ingredients with all five senses by experiencing the savory aroma of fire and straw up close and tasting the grilled Spanish mackerel as a set meal.
In addition, there will be participatory activities that both children and adults can enjoy, such as "Sky Sweets Forest," which includes exchange tickets for Shodoshima specialties, and a lottery event where you can win local products.
Furthermore, as related projects, special menus featuring Shodoshima-produced Spanish mackerel will be offered at affiliated Tamarun restaurants (May 8th and 9th), and a tasting sale will be held at Ryobi Platz Fujita store (May 9th). ■What is "Setouchi Mikke Mikke!"?
This event series was born from the desire to deliver the "good things," "delicious things," and "unknown charms" of Setouchi, encountered through interviews for the tourist free magazine "WONDERFUL SETOUCHI" published by Ryobi Group, to more people.
It aims to provide visitors with new encounters and discoveries, such as "I found something like this!" and "There are people like this!," and to convey the charm of Setouchi.
