Engineers' Most Used AI Tool: Claude – Overtaking ChatGPT Comparing overall and engineer-only usage (multiple answers), ChatGPT was 70.5% overall, but among engineers, Claude ranked first at 66.7%. Claude Code also tied for second at 60.0%. While ChatGPT is widely used for general purposes like information gathering and writing, engineers tend to choose coding-specific AI tools, as revealed by this survey. 2. 60% of Engineers Adopt "AI Writes Code, Engineer Reviews" Style When asked about role division with AI in development, "Let AI generate code, then review and fix myself" was top at 58.3%. Combined with "Let AI write the outline, then adjust and implement" (23.3%), over 80% of engineers position AI as the primary code writer.
