The Royal Park Hotel (Location: 2-1-1 Nihonbashi Kakigaracho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; General Manager: Koichi Ozawa) held a free event, "Let's Learn! SDGs at the Hotel 2026," on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, for new 5th-grade students enrolled at nearby Nihonbashi Elementary School and Arima Elementary School.
■ Royal Park Hotel x Dole Host a Free Event to Deliciously Learn about "SDGs"
This event has been held annually since 2023 for local elementary school students, with the aim of having them learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives of our hotel and companies. This year marked the 4th time the event was held.
Continuing from last year, together with Dole Japan, Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Hiroshi Aoki; hereafter "Dole"), which also has its headquarters in the Nihonbashi area, we provided a program where participants could learn about initiatives for a sustainable society centered on "food" using all five senses.
■ Enjoyably Introducing the Use of Eco-friendly Amenities and Ingenuity against Food Loss through Quizzes
Our hotel staff gave a presentation, incorporating quizzes, on initiatives corresponding to SDG goals such as "11: Sustainable Cities and Communities" and "12: Responsible Consumption and Production."
● Utilizing Sustainable Items as an Initiative of Royal Park Hotels (25 Hotels Nationwide)
While taking a fun tour around the hotel, we introduced actual items such as amenities using recycled plastic.
● Introducing Collaboration Programs with Local Businesses in Nihonbashi and Ningyocho
Initiatives to promote the town's charm, such as a program where guests can receive benefits by showing their room key at local shops.
● Introducing Examples of Upcycling Offcuts into Popular Products
We introduced the offcuts produced when making "Fuwatera," the signature product of Sweets & Bakery "Iki," with a demonstration.
We enjoyably conveyed the process of transforming parts that would otherwise be thrown away into "Fuwatera Rusk."
■ Introducing the "Mottainai Banana" Project, where Bananas Discarded for being Non-standard are Deliciously Reborn
Staff from Dole took the stage to talk about the "Mottainai Banana Project" promoted by the company.
Participants learned about the current situation and utilization examples of bananas that are discarded as non-standard even though they are still delicious to eat.
Afterwards, they tasted the "Mottainai Banana Mont Blanc" devised by our hotel's pastry chef using those "Mottainai Bananas." The children seemed to realize that familiar fruits are connected to social issues, along with their deliciousness.
■ Voices of the Participating Children
In the questionnaire after the event, all participants answered that they "want to participate again."
- "It left an impression on me that they are involving the community together with other companies."
- "I thought it was amazing that Dole is still using fruits even if they are damaged."
- "I thought I should be careful not to leave any food behind."
Our hotel will continue activities aimed at solving local community issues and realizing a sustainable future, together with the historic town of Nihonbashi.
