Roche Diagnostics K.K. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Representative Director and CEO: Kei Maeda) announced the winners of the Roche Infectious Disease Award 2025. This award, established by Roche in 2022, honors experts working at the forefront of infectious disease research and countermeasures. This 4th annual award received 29 applications from universities, hospitals, and research institutions nationwide. 13 winners were selected, including 9 in the "Excellence in Science" category. The Grand Prize (1,000,000 JPY) was awarded to Nozomi Takahashi (Chiba University Hospital) for sepsis research. Excellence Awards (500,000 JPY) went to Yoshinori Uemino (Keio University) for respiratory infections (COVID-19), Jun Tsuchiya (Tokyo Medical and Dental University) for viral hepatitis, and Naokatsu Ando (National Center for Global Health and Medicine) for sexually transmitted infections. Selected awards (300,000 JPY) were given to Kazuhiro Murai (Osaka University), Jun Inoue (Tohoku University Hospital), Masatsugu Ohara (Hokkaido University Hospital) for viral hepatitis, Hiroki Kitagawa (Hiroshima University Hospital) for sepsis, and an unnamed individual from Hiroshima University for respiratory infections (COVID-19). Roche provides diverse infectious disease related tests from the perspectives of prevention, diagnosis, and disease management.
