There was a place to face real robots for two days, not just simulations.
The day after the world's largest humanoid conference, "Humanoids Summit Tokyo 2026," concluded, developers, business professionals, and researchers from Japan and abroad gathered at the "GMO Humanoid Lab Shibuya Showroom" operated by GMO AI & Robotics Commerce.

Organized by Orboh, with sponsorship and cooperation from GMO AI & Robotics Commerce (GMO AIR), RobotMateHub (operated by Yamariki Edge LLC), Strike Robot, Manmaru AI, goi robotics, ignite0, and Solo tech, the physical AI hackathon "Humanoid Hack Tokyo" using humanoid robots took place over two days from Saturday, May 30, to Sunday, May 31, 2026. The event was held with high expectations, with over 100 people pre-registered. Approximately 30% of the pre-registrants were overseas engineers, creating an international atmosphere as developers who gathered in Tokyo from around the world for the Humanoids Summit transitioned directly to the hands-on development site.

Development sprint, final presentations, judging, award ceremony, and networking reception. All teams participated in the final presentations.

■ Robot Used (Provided by GMO AI & Robotics Commerce (GMO AIR))
Unitree G1 (by Unitree Robotics)
A bipedal humanoid robot. Supports open API/SDK. Widely used for research and development, allowing SDK control via Python. Two units provided by GMO AIR were used in this hackathon.

■ Winning Teams and Results
First Prize (1st): BLACK AI
Demonstrated mochi-pounding with a humanoid robot. Evaluated highly for teaching robots the movements of traditional crafts and preserving culture. Received the highest score for completeness and originality.
Second Prize (2nd): GOI (goi robotics)
Demonstrated sushi-chef movements learned by the Unitree G1. Gained attention for utilizing VLA (Vision-Language-Action) to teach Japanese culinary techniques to the hardware.
3rd/4th Tie: AG1
Took on an object sorting task. Implemented a control system with a GUI, showing high potential for industrial application.
Aun (阿吽)
Built an end-to-end pipeline from data collection via teleoperation to machine learning and hardware actuation. Commended for the high level of technical difficulty.
