Japanese agriculture is currently facing a major turning point.
As climate change and soil degradation progress, we need to reconsider the state of agriculture to continue eating delicious rice 100 years from now.

Globally, the demand for organic food is expanding, and foods that do not use chemical pesticides or fertilizers are supported by health-conscious people. Behind this is a global movement towards achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and interest in the "global environment" and "food safety" is increasing.

Meanwhile, in Japan, environmentally friendly agricultural products are sold under various names such as "Eco-Farmer Agricultural Products," "Specially Cultivated Agricultural Products," and "Organic Agricultural Products."

However, not many consumers understand the differences when making purchases.
The systems and labeling are difficult to understand, and the current situation is that accurate information is not being sufficiently conveyed.

What Does It Mean to "Eat in an Earth-Friendly Way"?

As a rice shop knowledgeable about natural and organic cultivation, we verify whether rice is truly environmentally friendly through our own standards and on-site investigations. The rice we handle is grown without the use of chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers. In some cases, it is more natural rice, grown without even livestock-derived compost.

There are not many producers who grow rice using such methods.

We have visited over 100 producers nationwide annually, listening to their "dedication," "passion," and thoughts about the "future" of rice cultivation.

What many farmers have in common is:

• They take pride in their rice cultivation.

• They cherish the land where they were born and raised.

• They feel joy when people tell them their rice is "delicious."

And at the same time, they face the chronic problem of how to sustain local agriculture.

Also, in the rice industry, "Akitakomachi R" will be fully cultivated from 2025, which has become a hot topic.

Its parent variety, "Koshihikari Kan No. 1," was created through mutation by a heavy ion beam and has the characteristic of being less likely to absorb the heavy metal cadmium from the soil.

Such latest technology is one means of solving problems and is highly significant. However, we question the fact that consumers have almost no choice. We want to choose rice grown in a natural cycle, valuing the vitality of the seed itself, not just efficiency and functionality.

To meet such desires, we will continue to create the option of "natural rice."
