## Exhibition Overview
This is a retrospective exhibition of Lucie Rie (1902-1995), a leading British ceramicist of the 20th century, held in Japan for the first time in about 10 years.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Lucie Rie was fascinated by production using a potter's wheel at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and pursued the path of ceramics. Although she established her position as an artist, she was forced to flee due to the war in 1938 and moved her pottery studio to London, England. The elegant forms created from the wheel, original patterns by inlay and sgraffito techniques, and rich colors produced by glazes continue to enchant many with their delicate and dignified presence.

In this exhibition, works by artists who interacted with Rie, such as Josef Hoffmann, whom she met in Vienna, and Bernard Leach and Hans Coper, whom she met during her London period, will also be displayed, and her relationship with Eastern pottery, mainly from Japan, will be re-examined. By unraveling her works alongside the places, people, things, and historical backgrounds she encountered from her early to mature periods, we approach the sources of her modeling and the beliefs expressed in her works.

## Highlights of the Exhibition
### Valuable Lucie Rie Works in Japan Gathered
In Japan, Lucie Rie's works were fully introduced at the Sogetsu Hall exhibition in 1989, and have been widely appreciated through large-scale exhibitions in 2010 and 2015. In this exhibition, Lucie Rie's works in Japan, including the Iuchi Collection deposited at the National Crafts Museum (Kanazawa), will be gathered in one place. Don't miss the opportunity of this retrospective, the first in about 10 years in Japan!

### Exhibition of Works by Associated Artists who Interacted with Lucie Rie
We also introduce works by artists who interacted with Rie, such as Josef Hoffmann, whom she met in Vienna, and Bernard Leach, Hans Coper, and Shoji Hamada, whom she met in England.
