Recruit Management Solutions Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Jun Yamazaki, hereinafter "the Company"), which supports solving management and HR issues in companies and promoting business and strategy, conducted a survey titled "Survey on Workplaces and Management Tasks Changed by AI Utilization" targeting regular employees working in companies. This survey aims to grasp the current status and awareness of AI utilization in work, analyze from various angles what changes are occurring in the workplace and management tasks, and explore the ideal state of future organizational management.
【Executive Summary】
- About 40% of the management, supervisors, and colleagues at the workplaces of the "work-utilizing group" actively use AI, and the realization of results in the workplace is spreading (Figure 1).
- Over 60% of the work-utilizing group identify themselves as actively using it. AI use is expanding from solving personal issues to organizational issues (Figure 2).
- More people in the work-utilizing group feel positive changes in task execution over the past 1-2 years compared to the non-utilizing group (Figure 3).
- Even within the work-utilizing group, those with a higher degree of AI utilization feel the changes over the past 1-2 years more (Figures 4, 5).
- Members evaluate AI for promoting tasks and presenting new perspectives/options, and human supervisors for staying close to members' emotions and motivations (Figure 6).
- The work-utilizing group views the future brought by AI positively while also harboring a sense of crisis (Figure 7).
- Even in the work-utilizing group, capability expansion through AI utilization does not necessarily mean the person's own abilities have improved (Figure 8).
- The base of AI tool introduction related to managers' tasks is expanding but remains limited (Figure 9).
- There are still few people who envision the impact of AI on managerial tasks (Figure 10).
In recent years, AI utilization in business areas such as the advancement of products/services and the efficiency of business processes has been progressing, and this trend is seen and heard daily. Under these circumstances, AI utilization among working individuals is steadily expanding, and signs of change are beginning to be seen in daily work processes, roles in the workplace, and even management tasks.
The survey results revealed that the segment utilizing AI at work realizes values such as improving the quality of work and gaining new perspectives, in addition to operational efficiency and productivity improvement. On the other hand, it is also shown that the role of human supervisors remains important in aspects such as evoking motivation and being sensitive to emotions.
Furthermore, AI utilization is not limited to the individual level but is expanding to overall workplace business improvement and value enhancement, and it was also confirmed that the sophistication of utilization content and the frequency of use affect the realization of results. In addition, regarding the future brought by AI, while there are expectations for operational efficiency and capability expansion, there are also concerns about a decline in human thinking ability and the demonstration of intrinsic value, suggesting a situation where expectations and a sense of crisis coexist.
Moreover, in managerial tasks, although the introduction of AI tools is progressing, its utilization is limited, and at present, there are signs that utilization will progress from areas such as business improvement and personnel management.
These results suggest that while AI utilization is beginning to bring changes to work styles and the nature of management, in order to maximize its value, it is necessary not only for individuals to use it but also to promote utilization across the entire organization and to develop systems and environments. In the future, by having AI and humans collaborate while dividing roles, the realization of more advanced task execution and management is expected. We hope this survey will help in considering future organizational operations and talent management.
