Recently, an analysis of data on barber and beauty shops that opened nationwide from July to September 2025 has revealed that the opening trends in the beauty and barber industry are not just a matter of simple increases or decreases. Instead, it's a situation where multiple factors are occurring simultaneously: a dispersion of opening timings, regional disparities, and changes in work styles.
This release summarizes the analysis results of the "National Beauty and Barber Shop Opening Ranking Report ver. 6 (July-September 2025, 3-year comparison)," which organizes the national trends in beauty and barber shop openings based on these changes.
The Number of Openings is Shifting from "Decrease" to a Phase of "Reconfiguration"
The number of new beauty and barber shop openings nationwide from July to September 2025 was **1,155**.
Although a decrease in openings is seen in some areas, this is not thought to be due to market shrinkage. Instead, it is considered to have multiple underlying factors, such as changes in the timing and form of openings, and the widening gap in openings between urban and rural areas.
In other words, the beauty and barber industry is not simply "seeing fewer openings," but rather, "the very nature of openings is changing."
National Beauty and Barber Shop Opening Ranking TOP 5 (July-September 2025)
Looking at the number of beauty and barber shop openings by prefecture from July to September 2025, urban and major metropolitan areas dominated the top spots: **1st Tokyo (186), 2nd Osaka (116), 3rd Fukuoka (73), 4th Kanagawa (72), and 5th Chiba (50)**.
Due to its large market size, Tokyo continues to have a stable number of openings, and the trend of openings concentrating in urban areas persists.
On the other hand, in cities outside the metropolitan area and in rural regions, there are variations in the timing of openings, showing different movements depending on the region. Although the dominance of urban areas continues, it is believed that differences in demographics, market size, and environment are beginning to affect opening trends.
