Experience the Light of Early Summer for Three Weeks: Farm Resort THE FARM Holds Firefly Viewing Event Exclusively for Guests

The Farm Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Katori City, Chiba Prefecture; Representative Director: Yasuaki Takeda; hereinafter "The Farm") will hold an exclusive "Firefly Viewing Event" for guests staying at "Farm Resort THE FARM" from late May to June 2026 (approx.).
Against the backdrop of approximately 10 years of environmental conservation activities, including the maintenance of satoyama (traditional rural landscape) and waterways that were once abandoned cultivated land, we propose the light of fireflies, which appear only for a short period in early summer, as a "stay experience."

Fireflies are delicate creatures that can only survive when there is clean water, hiding places like plants, and a quiet environment.
The area around Nishitabe, Katori City, where THE FARM is located, is a rice paddy area in a valley of low hills called "Yatsuda," and it once retained the original landscape of a satoyama where fireflies flew.
However, as depopulation progressed, human intervention ceased, and the area became desolate.
THE FARM has promoted environmental conservation efforts alongside tourism development, gradually restoring the original state of the rice paddies. As one result, fireflies returned in 2023.

Moving forward, we will continue our environmental conservation activities to connect the forgotten original landscape of satoyama to the future, aiming to create experiences where visitors can encounter "authentic nature."

THE FARM Firefly Viewing Event Overview:

*Details of the event will be announced at a later date.
*The appearance of fireflies is natural and depends on the weather and climatic conditions of the day.
*Guests will be taken near viewing spots such as rice paddies, and then are free to disperse at the site.

### THE FARM's Challenge: Fireflies flying again since 2023 after 10 years of efforts
As its name suggests, Farm Resort THE FARM has pursued the possibilities of "Farm x Resort," combining the richness of nature from a "farm" with the healing of mind and body as a "resort."
While expanding resort facilities, such as one of Eastern Japan's largest glamping sites and vegetable harvesting experiences for 40,000 people annually, we are undertaking various initiatives to protect the rich natural environment.

We were the first in Japan to register as a JGAP certified farm for rental farms, utilize 100% locally produced and consumed renewable energy from wind power, and install the most EV charging stations among glamping facilities nationwide to contribute to carbon neutrality. Meanwhile, we are sequentially switching various items consumed within the facility to environmentally friendly ones, such as using biodegradable detergents and bamboo toothbrushes.

Furthermore, in 2026, we obtained certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC®), an international standard for sustainable tourism (Certification number: GSTC HATU250141).

This certification is the first GSTC certification obtained by a glamping facility in Japan (as confirmed by GSTC).
The GSTC certification is granted after rigorous evaluation by a GSTC-accredited third-party certification body, based on international standards for sustainable tourism operations, including environmental preservation, consideration for local communities, respect for cultural values, and appropriate management systems.

### Preserving the firefly habitat: Observation and maintenance efforts
Surprisingly, many people have never seen fireflies, especially among the younger generation. At THE FARM, since fireflies began to appear again in 2023, we have established a system to protect their habitat and continuously observe them. We monitor the local conditions, paying attention to the aquatic environment and grassland status, and observe the condition of Semisulcospira libertina (a type of snail essential for firefly larvae).
Through these efforts, along with satoyama conservation, we are also developing biotopes within the premises, continuing to create an environment where seasonal changes in living things can be closely felt.
