Radi-cool Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) and Idemitsu Energy Solutions Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) would like to announce the results of a demonstration project regarding the energy-saving performance of the radiative cooling paint "Radi-cool," which was conducted at the "Hakata Port Bayside Museum" in Fukuoka City. In this project, we confirmed that air conditioning power consumption was reduced by a maximum of 31.7% under strictly compared meteorological conditions (described below).
Background and Purpose of the Demonstration Project Fukuoka City has set a challenge goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by fiscal 2040 and is promoting reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in public and private facilities. Since many buildings in the port area have structures susceptible to sunlight, we conducted this demonstration project to verify the energy-saving effects and as an initiative towards decarbonization.
Major Results of the Demonstration Project: Confirming the Correlation Between Temperature Suppression and Power Reduction From the results of this project, a reduction of up to 34.3°C in roof surface temperature and up to 9.7°C in attic space temperature was confirmed. Furthermore, regarding the power consumption of air conditioning, when compared under the same weather conditions (global solar radiation ±0.3MJ/day, maximum temperature difference less than ±1.0°C), a reduction of up to 31.7% and an average of 18.1% (5 cases) was confirmed before and after painting.
