The Crown Production Co., Ltd. (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will host "TRACE," a solo exhibition by its represented chalk artist ayumu, from July 3 (Fri) to July 12 (Sun), 2026, at Shibuya Modi B1F.
The exhibition will center on approximately 20 original artworks created by combining chalk art with materials such as masking tape and paper cutouts.
Featured works include pieces exhibited at an international art exhibition in Paris, France, and "Singular Light," created as the key visual for an event held at Shibuya Hikarie. Through representative works presented both in Japan and abroad, the exhibition traces the creative journey ayumu has undertaken to date.
At the venue, select exhibited works will be available for purchase, along with giclée prints that precisely reproduce the originals, and original merchandise such as T-shirts featuring artwork designs.
Additionally, ayumu will conduct direct drawing on windows and mirrors within the space, as well as live painting performances. Visitors can enjoy not only the finished artworks but also the creative process and time-limited expressions unique to the exhibition period.
Various live painting events exclusive to the venue will also be held throughout the exhibition period.
"TRACE"—Reflecting Artistic Journey and Handmade Traces
The exhibition title "TRACE" signifies both the path ayumu has traveled in her artistic practice and the physical traces left by hand through materials like chalk and masking tape.
Ayumu began creating artworks in earnest in 2019, starting with a mural for a café.
Building on chalk art as a foundation, she layers diverse materials such as masking tape and paper cutouts, pursuing a unique visual language that conveys depth and three-dimensionality despite being two-dimensional.
Her works, which introduce vivid colors and textured materials into predominantly monochrome compositions, are each meticulously crafted by hand.
This exhibition will showcase ayumu's artistic evolution—from her café mural to events in Shibuya and exhibitions and awards in Paris—primarily through around 20 original artworks.
Furthermore, treating the Shibuya Modi space itself as an extension of her canvas, ayumu will inscribe new "TRACES" into the venue through direct drawing on windows and mirrors and live painting performances.
"sead_All mixed," exhibited at ART Shopping Paris 2025
Featuring around 20 original works, including pieces exhibited in Paris and "Singular Light"
The exhibition will present approximately 20 original artworks in various sizes, from large-scale pieces measuring around 830mm × 620mm to A4-sized works.
Among the displayed pieces are "Enkai" and "sead_All mixed," exhibited at the international art fair "ART Shopping Paris 2025" in Paris, France, as well as "Singular Light," created as the key visual for an event at Shibuya Hikarie.
Bringing together pivotal works from her activities in Japan and overseas, the exhibition highlights the evolution and expansion of ayumu's artistic expression.
Experience firsthand the unique textures created by soft chalk gradations, the colors and materiality of masking tape, and the delicate outlines of paper cutouts—qualities best appreciated up close in original form.
"Singular Light"
Drawing a New "TRACE" at Shibuya Modi
Throughout the exhibition period, ayumu will conduct live painting performances.
Visitors can observe the gradual creation of artworks in real time, using the venue's windows and mirrors as canvases.
Beyond the completed works, witnessing new expressions emerge within the exhibition space is a unique highlight of this show.
The artworks drawn on windows and mirrors will be presented as time-limited installations, viewable only during the exhibition, and will also serve as photo spots where visitors can take commemorative photos with the art.
Further details regarding dates and times for the live painting sessions will be announced gradually via the official website and social media channels.
Bringing Art into Everyday Life
In addition to selling select exhibited works, the venue will offer giclée prints that faithfully reproduce the originals in high resolution, as well as original merchandise featuring ayumu's artworks.
Original works capture the unique texture of one-of-a-kind pieces, while giclée prints offer an accessible way to enjoy ayumu's artistic world. Giclée prints will primarily be available via pre-order, with select pieces available for limited on-site purchase.
Related merchandise, including original T-shirts, will also be available for sale.
