Qdan Inc. (Headquarters: Musashino City, Tokyo) implemented a major update for its travel logging and journal app "Keikenchi" on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The update significantly enhances the travel recording experience with city/ward level maps now available for all 47 prefectures, a memo function, a custom score function, and English language support. As of March 2026, "Keikenchi" has powered up as one of Japan's largest travel log apps, with approximately 200,000 monthly users.

About the "Keikenchi" App

Keikenchi® is a travel journal and logging service that assesses travel experiences across Japan's 47 prefectures on six levels, creates a color-coded "Keikenchi Map" of Japan, and records the total score. It was launched as a web service in 2005 and became an app in 2018.

The app's biggest feature is that it not only allows users to look back on past travel memories but also inspires future travel plans. By visualizing and scoring visit experiences, it offers a unique experience that makes users want to share their personal travel records on social media. Many users post their Keikenchi maps on X and Instagram, and the number of users has grown primarily through word-of-mouth. From approximately 120,000 monthly users in September 2024, it has grown to approximately 200,000 monthly users (about 1.7 times) as of March 2026. ®Trademark Registration No. 6798801 licensed for use.

Background of the Update — "More detailed, more freedom, wider reach"

As the number of inbound foreign tourists continues to break records and domestic travel thrives, "Keikenchi" users have frequently requested the following:

"Prefecture-level records are not enough; I want to record at the city/ward level." "Beyond scores, I want to save memories of experiences in that area." "I want to create records tailored to my hobbies, such as hot spring tours or anime pilgrimage." "I want my foreign friends to use it, so I need English support."

This update responds to these user requests by enhancing functions based on three policies: "more detailed records," "more freedom for memories," and "wider reach for experiences to the world." The app has evolved into a travel journal app that reaches everyone traveling across Japan, and even international visitors to Japan.

Four Key Points of the Update

【1】City/Ward Level Maps Now Available for All 47 Prefectures (Maps significantly expanded from 2 types to 48 types)

The city/ward level maps, previously only available for Tokyo, have been expanded to all 47 prefectures. Users can now record experiences at the city/ward level for over 1,700 municipalities nationwide, from Hokkaido to Okinawa. A total of 48 types of maps can be freely switched between, including the national map, allowing for deeper travel enjoyment that was not possible with the previous Keikenchi, such as "coloring all local municipalities," "conquering my home prefecture," or "exploring all 23 wards of Tokyo."

【2】Custom Score Settings — Create Your Own Keikenchi Map

A function has been added that allows users to freely create unique score categories tailored to their interests and hobbies, such as "Onsen Level," "Anime Pilgrimage," "Ramen Tour," "Sauna Keikenchi," or "Goshuin Pilgrimage." Records can be separated by travel theme, enabling users to visualize various parts of Japan from their unique perspectives, such as "conquering 47 prefectures with hot spring trips," "creating an anime pilgrimage map," or "local gourmet Keikenchi."

【3】Memo Function — Record Memories on the Spot

A function has been added to leave memos of up to 40 characters for each region. This allows users to easily save travel memories that cannot be captured by scores alone, such as "who I went with," "what I ate," or "what was impressive." A UI has also been implemented where tapping a region on the main screen instantly displays and allows editing of scores and memos, making it possible to quickly record even while traveling.

【4】English Support (English & Japanese) — For Global Users Traveling in Japan

The entire app now supports English, with a language switching function implemented. The app has evolved to reach a wide range of international users, including first-time foreign tourists, JET Programme English teachers, long-term foreign residents, and overseas fans enthusiastic about Japanese culture and anime pilgrimage.

Whether you're a first-time tourist, a long-term expat, a JET Programme teacher, an anime pilgrimage fan, or a die-hard Japan lover planning your next trip — Keikenchi makes your journey visible.
