April 21, 2026, Frankfurt am Main — Keen Games has released 'Forging the Path,' a major update for the open-world survival action RPG 'Enshrouded.'
As the 8th and final major update during the Early Access period, this release features the largest-scale overhaul of the entire game to date, spanning combat, character progression, the introductory experience for new players, crafting, building, and social features.
The studio is entering the final stages of development for the version 1.0 full release and console versions scheduled for this autumn. Since the start of Early Access in January 2024, the game has surpassed 5 million cumulative players.
Antony Christoulakis, Creative Director at Keen Games, commented:
'Forging the Path is our most significant update yet. We have addressed community feedback head-on. This update introduces the first phase of improvements for a deeper combat experience, along with the initial version of "Adventure Sharing," a new feature where players can share their architectural creations.'
■ Key Update Details
▼ Comprehensive Combat System Renewal
This update fundamentally overhauls combat, skills, and equipment systems.
- Weapon Special Skills: A new resource 'Focus' builds up with normal attacks, allowing players to trigger powerful weapon-specific skills.
- Bash (Heavy Attack): Added to all melee weapons. Holding the attack button triggers a powerful strike that deals double damage and significantly reduces the enemy's stun gauge.
- Two-Handed Weapon Rework: Attack combos for two-handed axes, hammers, and swords have been fully refreshed.
- Enhanced Enemy AI: Enemies now react in stages ('Suspicious -> Searching -> Combat'), allowing for more tactical approaches.
- Magic System Improvements: Increased wand range and durability, expanded fireball explosion radius, and adjusted material drops to make magic more accessible from the start.
▼ Progression and Build Expansion
- Skill Leveling: Players can now further enhance unlocked skills.
- Redesigned Skill Tree: Expanded connection routes between classes to facilitate hybrid builds. Double Jump is now centrally located and accessible to all classes.
- Equipment Enhancement: Runes can be attached to armor, shields, and rings. Higher quality equipment offers more slots for customization.
▼ New 'Adventure Sharing' Feature
A community-requested system to share worlds. Players can upload their world (Embervale) to a dedicated hub or browse and download others' works. A new 'Camera' item allows for direct in-game screenshots of bases.
▼ Introductory Experience & QoL Improvements
Enhanced onboarding for new players and various quality-of-life adjustments have been implemented as the game moves toward its full launch.
