The Protean Career Association, a general incorporated association based in Shinjuku, Tokyo and represented by Kensuke Tanaka and Toru Ariyama, supports better relationships between organizations and individuals as well as individuals’ autonomous career development. The association announced the launch of its Career Compass Program, led by its learning team. The program is designed for individuals pursuing autonomous career development, helping them redefine their axis of growth and expand the value they contribute to society through dialogue and co-creation with peers who have diverse experiences. The program has three main features and objectives. The first is dialogue: certified members with varied career backgrounds engage in deep one-on-one conversations to broaden their perspectives. The second is co-creation: encounters between Navigators and Innovators across age, industry, and position allow diverse values to intersect, creating relationships of mutual learning and growth and generating new possibilities beyond individual boundaries. The third is practice: each participant who resonates with the association’s purpose of realizing a society filled with psychological success learns and acts on their own initiative, with small accumulated practices aimed at eventually driving broader social change. The terms Navigator and Innovator were created by the learning team. They indicate that there is no hierarchy in these encounters and convey the belief that every meeting between people contains an opportunity for learning. Before the full launch, a trial was conducted from September to December 2025, during which 11 pairs held repeated dialogues and supported each other’s careers. Participants took career development assessments before and after the trial to measure its effects. The results showed increases for both Navigators and Innovators, with particularly strong gains among Innovators, confirming that the program benefits both sides. The first cohort of the Career Compass Program officially began on April 29. Over the next three months, 27 pairs of Navigators and Innovators will continue their dialogues. On the launch day, the learning team announced the matched pairs, and participants expressed anticipation for the partners with whom they will move forward. The learning team, represented by Ishioka, Kimura, Ebihara, and Hamano, said that although the trial had already confirmed the program’s effectiveness, they were surprised that 46 certified members applied for the program under the new concept of co-creating psychological success. They said this demonstrates the strong agency of the association’s certified members as practitioners and their deep engagement with the association’s purpose of realizing a society filled with psychological success. The association also introduced the Protean Career AI Basic Course and Certification as a first step for people who wish to open up their own careers while also engaging with the careers of others. The course systematically teaches modern Protean Career theory and the foundational knowledge and practical wisdom needed for career development in the AI era. The association’s certified service provider is 4designs Inc., which offers management consulting, organizational development support to maximize human capital, and career development support. Its clients include Panasonic Industry, Sumitomo Corporation, Morinaga & Co., POLA, Dentsu Digital, Idemitsu Kosan, INTAGE, EXA, and more than 200 other companies. The Protean Career Association was established in March 2020. Its main activities include career dialogue-based organizational development support, career support services for individuals, and operation of certification programs.
