<Background> With record-high temperatures becoming more frequent in recent summers, the Japan Meteorological Agency defined a new term, 'Kokushobi' (extreme heat day for days reaching 40°C or higher), in April this year. While temperature is said to decrease by approximately 0.5 to 1.0°C for every 100 meters of elevation (*1), the altitude here in Manza Onsen is 1,800 meters.
