[The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike] Warding Off Evil with "Horaku-wari" of "Mibu-san's Kanden-den": Horaku to be Dedicated to Mibu-dera Temple Specially Offered at Hotel Lobby

The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike (Location: Takaragaike, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture; General Manager: Keisuke Hitomi) will specially offer "Horaku" (earthenware pots) at the hotel lobby from Tuesday, April 14 to Monday, May 4 (public holiday), 2026. These pots will be dedicated to the "Mibu Kyogen" performance at Mibu-dera Temple (Location: 31 Mibunaginomiya-cho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City; Head Priest: Toshiaki Matsuura), famously known for "Mibu-san's Kanden-den". Mibu Kyogen is a silent religious play founded by the monk Engaku in the Kamakura period to spread Buddhist teachings, and it is designated as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Performed three times a year in Setsubun, spring, and autumn, the spring Kyogen is called the "Mibu Dainenbutsu-e". During this period, the "Horaku-wari" (pot-breaking) play is performed first every day, where the Horaku dedicated by worshippers are broken. From the approximately 3-meter-high stage of the Dainenbutsu-do, a national Important Cultural Property, numerous Horaku are dynamically dropped in hopes of warding off evil and bringing good luck. The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike connects "guests" with "Kyoto" and will continue its activities to support Kyoto's traditional events in the future. [Regarding Horaku Offering] 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 14, 2026 - 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 4 (public holiday). Hotel Lobby (1F) Horaku offering fee 700 yen + Dedication fee 100 yen - Guests will write their wishes on the Horaku with ink, and the hotel will dedicate it to Mibu-dera Temple. The dedicated Horaku will be broken during the spring Mibu Kyogen play. - As proof of the Horaku offering, a "Horaku Dedication Certificate" featuring a zodiac picture will be provided. A portion of the Horaku is drawn on the zodiac picture, and collecting all twelve zodiac signs completes a single picture.
