Manno Park has planted about 40 varieties of hydrangeas, one of the largest in Shikoku, allowing you to enjoy various flower colors and shapes. You will surely be surprised by the rich variations, from the representative mophead blooms to gorgeous double-flowered varieties, and rustic lineages including lacecap hydrangeas. Please take a walk around the Hydrangea Garden and enjoy the differences between the varieties.
[Tips] About Hydrangeas
'Hydrangea' is a deciduous shrub of the Hydrangeaceae family native to Japan, and is a general term for some plants of the genus Hydrangea that have lacecap hydrangeas as their original species.
The part that looks like a flower is a modified 'calyx,' also called a decorative flower, and is said to play a role in guiding insects to carry pollen to the true, small, and inconspicuous flowers.
The true flowers are very small and not noticeable unless observed closely, but the buds are round, and when the flowers open, you can enjoy their delicate and lovely appearance.
Written in Chinese characters as '紫陽花' (Shoyoka), it also has aliases such as 'Yohira' (four petals) because it has four calyxes, and 'Shichihenge' (seven transformations) because the color of the flower changes depending on the acidity of the soil.
Collaboration of Fresh Greenery and Hiryu Pond
The Hydrangea Garden in Manno Park is adjacent to a reservoir called 'Hiryu Pond,' allowing you to enjoy a beautiful collaboration between the waterside and fresh greenery.
Taking a walk in the moist early summer forest while looking at the hydrangeas is also very pleasant and highly recommended.
Taking advantage of the terrain with varying elevations, it is good to look from above, and good to look from below...
Please enjoy the Hydrangea Garden, which changes its expression in various ways depending on where you stand.
