Small flowers creating a spectacular blue view
Nemophila is an annual plant native to North America, belonging to the Boraginaceae family (formerly Hydrophyllaceae). It blooms small blue flowers 2 to 3 cm in diameter on plants 10 to 20 cm tall. The Japanese name "Ruri-karakusa" comes from the lapis lazuli (ruri) colored flowers and leaf shapes resembling arabesque (karakusa) patterns. The English name "Baby blue eyes" originates from the small, lovely blue flowers with white centers being reminiscent of an innocent baby's beautiful blue eyes.
