PFN Launches PLaMo 2.2 Prime and PLaMo Translation on Snowflake Marketplace

Preferred Networks, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Daisuke Okanohara; hereinafter, PFN) announced today the launch of its flagship model PLaMo™ (Plamo) 2.2 Prime, a Japanese-developed generative AI foundation model built from scratch, and PLaMo Translation, specialized in Japanese translation, on the Snowflake Marketplace. Snowflake Marketplace is provided by "Snowflake," an AI data cloud used by over 12,000 companies worldwide.

Snowflake is an AI data cloud characterized by its unique architecture that separates storage and compute resources, and a multi-cloud environment compatible with major clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. It allows flexible scaling of resources like GPUs according to usage scale and load, enabling secure and seamless data analysis and sharing. Many companies use Snowflake to centrally manage critical business data.

PLaMo Translation offered on the Snowflake Marketplace provides advanced features not available in the cloud version of PLaMo Translation, such as glossary creation/import functions and the ability to control translation methods according to context, in addition to Japanese-English and English-Japanese translation. This enables high-quality translations that reflect industry terms and business contexts, streamlining information sharing and document preparation in global operations, and promoting the sale of domestic information and data to overseas markets.

PFN will continue to expand its environment to consistently leverage diverse functions such as analysis, generation, and translation using the PLaMo series of generative AI foundation models on Snowflake. This will further broaden the options for Japanese companies to confidently adopt domestic generative AI into their operations, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Japanese companies.

PLaMo Translation is a domestic large-scale language model developed by PFN, specializing in text translation with Japanese as both input and output language. Its architecture design and training are entirely conducted in Japan, achieving world-class Japanese performance and high transparency by being trained on a rich, high-quality proprietary Japanese dataset. For English-to-Japanese translation, it generates fluent and easy-to-understand Japanese text with fewer repetitions, omissions, or inconsistencies in notation, even for long sentences. For Japanese-to-English translation, it produces English text faithful to unique Japanese nuances, vocabulary, and expressions. PLaMo Translation is now available on the secure cloud environment of Snowflake, in addition to existing browser translation and desktop applications.

PLaMo (Plamo) is a domestic generative AI foundation model developed by PFN from scratch. It is offered for various uses, including the commercial flagship model PLaMo Prime, PLaMo Lite (a lightweight small-scale language model for edge devices such as automobiles and manufacturing equipment), PLaMo specialized in finance (trained with additional Japanese financial knowledge), and PLaMo Translation (specialized in Japanese translation). PLaMo Prime is available via cloud API, Amazon Bedrock Marketplace, on-premise, and Snowflake.
