On June 7, 2026 (Sunday), Tottori Prefecture held an appointment ceremony for Takashi Kato (born in Tottori) of Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra as 'Tottori Hometown Ambassador' at Hotel New Otani Tottori.

At the ceremony, Governor Hirai first stated, 'Today, we have gladly accepted the appointment of our hometown hero, Takashi Kato, as "Tottori Hometown Ambassador." The "ska" in Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra is music from Jamaica, and our prefecture was the first in Japan to form ties with Jamaica. I feel a connection in that you are spreading "ska" across Japan and the world.' He then humorously added, 'Mr. Kato is Tokyo Ska Paradise, but here we have "Food Paradise Tottori Prefecture." I hope you will support us as Tokyo "Suika" (watermelon, in season now) Paradise Orchestra.' He presented the letter of appointment and a gift of loquats from Tottori, Kato's favorite fruit.

Also, since Kato loves yakiniku (grilled meat) and is called 'Yakiniku DJ' among band members, he was requested to promote Tottori beef as 'Yakiniku DJ.'

Upon receiving the appointment, Kato first lightened the mood by saying, 'I'm Takashi Kato from Tokyo "Suika" Paradise Orchestra (laughs).' He then expressed his aspirations: 'I have visited many places around the world for concerts, but the farther I go, the more I miss my hometown. Sometimes I look up at the stars in Europe and wonder if everyone in Tottori is looking at the same stars. I had been thinking about how to give back to my hometown, so I really wanted to become a "Tottori Hometown Ambassador." Tottori has beautiful sand dunes, sea, mountains, and stars; its rice, meat, and watermelon are delicious with gentle flavors. And the people of Tottori are very kind. I want to convey all this kindness of Tottori to people around the world. I have named my original songs after inspiration from the San'in region, such as "Sand Hill," and I want to continue that.'

Regarding his role as 'Tottori Beef Yakiniku DJ,' he said with a smile, 'I love yakiniku, so my bandmates named me "Yakiniku DJ," but I never imagined I would become a Tottori Beef exclusive Yakiniku DJ (laughs). Tottori beef is truly delicious, and I enjoy it through hometown tax donations. I want to spread its goodness nationwide.'
