Preco Foods Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Yukio Takashiba※2), which supplies ingredients to approximately 30% of restaurants in Tokyo (※1), will begin sales of its original brand wine, 'Mar Azul Vinho Verde' (Importer: Wine Curation Co., Ltd.), to its contracted restaurants starting Friday, April 3, 2026.
## Background of Planning
Based on a long-standing trust with the prestigious winery 'Quinta da Lixa' in Northern Portugal, we visited the site and communicated directly with the winemakers. In collaboration with the importer, Wine Curation Co., Ltd., we jointly developed this product, leading to its current launch. The concept took a year to develop, achieving high quality while offering excellent cost performance that can be tried casually.
## Product Information
Product Name: Mar Azul Vinho Verde
Varieties: Loureiro, Trajadura, etc.
Origin: Portugal, Minho Region
Type: Semi-Sparkling, White
Taste: Dry
Alcohol: 9.5%
Volume: 750ml
The newly launched 'Mar Azul Vinho Verde' is a traditional wine from the Minho region of Northern Portugal, known as 'Vinho Verde' (Green Wine). 'Green wine' refers to a fresh, youthful, and light-bodied wine. With lower alcohol content compared to general wines, and a light taste with lively acidity and a refreshing quality, it is gaining global attention as a new category of wine. We aim to establish 'green' wine as a category following red, white, rosé, and orange. With its vibrant taste and refreshing character, this product offers a new option beyond conventional wines.
### About the Taste
Carbon dioxide gas is controlled to be less than 1 atm, achieving a soft mouthfeel and pleasant acidity with a refreshing sensation. It is designed with a focus on the harmony of crisp acidity and minerals, making it suitable not only for seafood dishes but also for Japanese cuisine such as sushi and tempura that highlights the natural flavors of ingredients.
## About Quinta da Lixa Winery
'Quinta da Lixa' is located in the Vinho Verde wine region in northwestern Portugal and is a winery blessed with natural conditions highly suitable for grape cultivation. The soil is primarily granitic, characterized by low organic matter and excellent drainage, which promotes the growth of high-quality grapes. In some plots, soil mixed with granite is also found, contributing freshness, minerality, and a slight saltiness to the wine. The climate is oceanic, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, with mild winters and moderate summers, allowing grapes to mature slowly and evenly. Throughout the year, rainfall is relatively abundant, ensuring a stable supply of water crucial for the grapevines.
Furthermore, this winery primarily produces wines using grape varieties native to the Vinho Verde region (such as Alvarinho, Loureiro, Trajadura, etc.). Overall, the wines are light, elegant, and very fresh, perfect as aperitifs or to accompany a variety of dishes.
## About How to Drink
In addition to traditional serving methods, we also recommend creative arrangements that leverage its light body. Adding ice enhances its refreshing taste and lowers the alcohol content, making it suitable for those who dislike strong alcohol or prefer a lower-alcohol option for the day.
We propose casual serving styles for restaurants, such as cocktail variations. We also provide sales support, including menu creation and promotional POP materials.
### Examples of Cocktail-Style Arrangements
① On the Rocks: Simply add ice! A classic style familiar in the West.
② Mojito-Style: Add lime, mint, and a suitable amount of soda water for a visually cool summer style.
③ Kir Royale-Style: Combine with fruity liqueurs like cassis liqueur for a balanced sweetness and acidity.
④ Operator-Style: Dilute with your preferred amount of ginger ale to enhance the carbonation. It pairs well with a light sweetness and is recommended for generous servings in mugs.
## About the Product Name and Label
With the concept of "A wine that allows you to experience the feeling of traveling in Portugal," we named it 'Mar Azul Vinho Verde,' meaning 'Blue Sea,' due to its location near the sea on the Atlantic coast. The design evokes the image of the "Age of Discovery" and historical connections to Portugal (such as firearms and the introduction of Christianity) that many Japanese associate with the country. It layers the romance of wine traveling across vast oceans, creating a design that allows customers to feel a sense of story.
