About Code for Everyone
https://code.or.jp/
'Code for Everyone' is a non-profit organization (NPO) that promotes technology education across Japan with the vision of 'making Japan a country where everyone enjoys technology creatively.'
They carry out a wide range of initiatives, including policy recommendations for expanding technology education in public schools, verification research in collaboration with academic institutions, development and provision of programming materials, planning and holding various training sessions for teachers in charge of programming education, and creating 'third places' where children can freely interact with technology.
Policy Recommendations by Code for Everyone
Since its founding in 2015, 'Code for Everyone' has worked toward the development of information education in elementary, middle, and high schools. As discussions on information education for the next national curriculum guidelines have intensified since last year, aiming for a fundamental improvement in information literacy, the organization will continue to make policy recommendations this fiscal year toward ensuring systematic continuity throughout school education, activating discussions related to Generative AI, and popularizing the curriculum guidelines.
Comment from Yuta Tonegawa, Chairman of the Board
'The discussions on enhancing information literacy cultivation in the curriculum guidelines, an issue 'Code for Everyone' has long raised, are finally reaching a critical stage. We are very encouraged to be selected again for this project and intend to further refine our policy recommendations based on our practical experience and research findings in schools, leading them toward the implementation phase. We will continue to work toward making Japan a country where everyone can enjoy technology creatively.'
Progress in the Second Round of 'SoilxPolicy Fund'
Through the support of this fund, 'Code for Everyone' has accelerated recommendations and verification activities looking toward the future of information education in the 2030s. Key progress includes:
- Realizing a systematic framework for information education: The 'systematic framework for cultivating information literacy' that 'Code for Everyone' has proposed since 2022 is coming to fruition in the form of a 'fundamental improvement in information literacy' in current discussions for the next curriculum guideline revision by the Central Council for Education. The 'Draft Curriculum Model for Systematic Learning of Information Education in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools' announced in July 2024 contributed significantly to the concretization of the discussion.
- Policy recommendations on Generative AI: In September 2025, they published 'Recommendations for Fundamental Improvement of Information Literacy in the Next Curriculum Guidelines.' Furthermore, Chairman Tonegawa served as a member of the Ministry of Education's 'Special Committee on Digital Learning Foundations,' speaking on the educational use of Generative AI.
